Electroactive Polymers (EAPs)
I’ve known about electroactive polymers for some time now, they’re a hot topic in the realm of soft robotics and prosthetic design where they being used as artificial muscles. It seemed like a good place to start considering that once fabricated, a network of EAP actuators could constitute both the structural and mechanical framework for a smart material system.
Recently, I came across this research paper which provides instruction for DYI fabrication of a dielectric-elastomer structures:
